Kathleen Kolman 2:00PM – Anabel Gil Díaz & DíJazz, featuring: Anabel Gil Díaz – flute Andres Escalona – bass Danie Duarte Pérez – keyboards David Antonio Rosado – percussion Award-winning flutist, pianist, and composer Anabel Gil Díaz, born in Havana, Cuba, fuses contemporary jazz with Afro-Cuban rhythms and European influences. A graduate of the Instituto Superior de Arte and alumna of Berklee College of Music and Longy School of Music, she earned Presidential Scholarships from both institutions and was a finalist for the Brandon Fradd Composition Fellowship from the Cintas Foundation. Anabel has shone as a soloist with the Boston Landmarks Orchestra and the Chicago Jazz Philharmonic, and serves as principal flutist of the Du Bois Orchestra. She contributed to the Grammy-winning album New Jazz Standards Vol. 1 by Terri Lyne Carrington and has created groundbreaking interdisciplinary projects with EventThem, the MassArt Art Museum (MAAM), and the Boston Center for the Arts. Her compositions have been commissioned by Boston Landmarks Orchestra, MassArt Art Museum, and Brandeis University, and she has scored films distributed by Kino Lorber. She is also the accompanist pianist for Boston Ballet, shaping the artistry of elite dancers. Her performances are featured on GBH and at the Vermont and Chicago jazz festivals, where her virtuosity and inventive voice captivate audiences.
